John Milne "Earthquake Milne"

John Milne was born on December 30, 1850 in Liverpool, England. He attended King's College as well as the Royal School of Mines. It was there that he earned his way to becoming a mining engineer. Working his way around Europe, Milne participated in a mining expedition to Sinai in 1874. By the age of 25, Milne was a professor at the Imperial College of Engineering in Tokyo. He arrived in Japan in 1876, and was greeted with an earthquake on his first night.
